Have you ever blindly wandered
Through jagged rocks abundant,
Famished and ravenously plundered
A bush of fruit triumphant?
Have you gone through deserts scorching
Barefoot, trying to pass,
Parched, gave all your worldly fortune
For plain water in a glass?
Have you seen humanity in action,
In deeds as pure as gold,
To give away a fraction
Of the things so dear you hold?
Have you seen the face of god
In the people all around thee,
Pierce their impeccable facade
And comprehend profoundly?
Have you searched your heart and soul
For some virtue and compassion,
Just to find a lump of coal,
Because it is the latest fashion?
